Hospital discharge data from 2012 to 2016 demonstrates a significant increase in the number of infants with a diagnosis of substance exposure in utero (3.0 per 1,000 births to 13.2 per 1,000 births, respectively). The aim of the Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) initiative is to reduce length of stay among infants with NAS from 16.3 to 14.7 by September 30, 2021. 46 hospitals participated in this initiative with access to the Vermont Oxford Network Universal Training Program for NAS and completed a baseline and biannual audit. NAS moved into sustainability September 30, 2021.
