 Excessive and overuse of antibiotics can contribute significantly to antibiotic resistance. This serious issue has posed a challenge for medical providers to effectively treat regularly acquired infections and diseases. This public health matter has prompted collaborative efforts with organizations to promote antibiotic stewardship programs for the neonatal population through standardization of protocols and evidence-based processes to reduce misuse.    

 The long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARCs) initiative enables recipients to access this method of family planning in the immediate post-partum period. LARCs has proven to be a reliable and frequently desired option for women with the advantages of reducing unintended pregnancy and promoting spacing between childbearing.  

The five participating hospitals that implemented this initiative increased Hepatitis B vaccine administration prior to hospital discharge in neonates whose parents provided consent.

Administration of antenatal corticosteroids in eligible women increased to 90% in five hospitals.
